ABOUT TITO VALDES

Tito Valdes is the Executive Director of LGBTQ+ Affairs for the City of Philadelphia, where he leads the city’s efforts to advance equity, safety, and opportunity for LGBTQ+ residents. In this role, he works across municipal agencies, community organizations, and the private sector to ensure that LGBTQ+ Philadelphians are meaningfully represented in policy development, service delivery, and economic initiatives.Before entering city leadership, Tito built a distinguished legal career focused on protecting vulnerable populations. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia, where he prosecuted cases involving sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and crimes against children. Over the course of his prosecutorial career, he litigated more than 30 jury trials and hundreds of bench trials to verdict, developing deep expertise in forensic evidence, child abuse investigations, and trauma-informed prosecution.Tito later practiced civil litigation representing survivors of sexual abuse, where he focused on institutional accountability and securing justice for victims navigating complex legal systems.Beyond the courtroom, Tito is a recognized educator and public speaker. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at Temple University and has lectured nationally on trauma-informed practices, culturally responsive approaches to justice, and strategies for addressing bias in legal systems. His work frequently bridges the legal, public policy, and community advocacy spaces.Tito’s leadership has also extended to nonprofit governance and community engagement. He has served on the boards of organizations including The Attic Youth Center and the William Way LGBT Community Center and has been an active voice in conversations about justice, equity, and public safety.His work has been recognized with honors including the Prosecutor of the Year Award from the Philadelphia Coalition for Victim Advocacy and the Team Excellence Award from the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance.
