THOMAS SOMERSET – RESEARCHER/BRAND MARKETER/MEDIA DIRECTOR/EXECUTIVE PRODUCER/PSYCHOLOGIST/MUSICIANGreater than the sum of its parts.I’ve many times envied people who focus their education and pursuit in the working world in a linear path – staying focused on one profession and advancing a predictable path to a logical ceiling of either opportunity or ability.My path is a checkerboard of both talents and interests that span both left and right brain pursuits, altruistic and more commerce based settings, arts and science, led by ability and curiosity.My resume reads as if several people may have contributed – but whether it was music performance, clinical behavior research, film production, or any of the advertising disciplines of research, planning, marketing, or production – everything I have done influences and guides me toward the best and most innovative solutions.• I have had a seat at every table in the media/marketing advertising world – from entry-level data analyst at AC Nielsen NY to Managing Director of the Carat office Irvine servicing WMG/Hyundai/Kia. There is not likely a client category, size, or region (including globally) I have not successfully serviced. • Prior to advertising I was privileged to work alongside clinical leaders in treating childhood Autism and Schizophrenia – and while best in class worldwide – spent much of my time observing and understanding the human condition in the most trying of times for both patients and family.• Life began as a music prodigy pursuing piano performance from age three throughout college both here and abroad – a rigorous training of both left and right brain functions and also as an influence in touching people in unconscious ways – the power of the intangible.• Sandwiched between opportunities I spent five years producing feature films – great lessons in dealing with subcultures, celebrity, ego, and posturing - all under the guise of art. I was blessed with instructors who taught that “ideas and creativity are taught from the brain to the wrist” – at that point, execution of this well crafted idea can then take on many different forms – a screenplay, a prelude, or a brilliant customer focused marketing plan.
