About Thian Amarasekera

I am an aspiring Economic Research Analyst specializing in Data Analytics and Economic Research. I am proficient in using statistical software like Stata, SQL, and Tableau. I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics (minor in Computer Science) at Boston University. My career aspiration in finance and economic research started when I was in high school. When I was in high school, I founded a micro-financing club where I led a team of 6 to raise capital for a project to support villagers in rural areas. I pitched my idea to senior executives and successfully obtained seed funding. As a result, my team successfully achieved our mission of supporting the villagers with micro-finance training and financial advice to help them kick-start their local businesses. I gained invaluable real-world business experience throughout my experiences in high school and now in university. A few outcomes from my data analytics and financial investment projects are as follows- Managed large data sets (10K+) and determined relevant data and identified 6 areas of improvement to increase conversion rate - Performed statistical analysis of quantitative, qualitative customer survey data from 4 countries in the South East Asia region - Analyzed 5-year financial data of two leading asset management firms: BlackRock and Blackstone; comparing the asset turnover ratio between companies, scored 94/100 (highest in the classroom) My goal is to help companies and institutions understand the socio-economic and business systems by using quantitative methods in economics and business research, for example, prediction models to support decision-making processes and improve the results of companies and institutions. Fun Fact: I’m a Soccer Enthusiast. I’m Arsenal’s biggest fan and watched every game during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. When I\'m not working, you’ll see me playing games (such as Call of Duty and poker), hiking waterfall trails, baking and traveling.
