ABOUT SUSIE NELSON
Although I’m a firm believer in structure and lean principles, I enjoy connecting with my team on a personal level. I believe that building a culture where every employee feels valued, included, and respected starts with a personal connection. Once I’ve developed an initial rapport each day, it’s easier to transition into the task at hand. Since I genuinely understand what motivates my teams, I’m able to successfully build trust with many people from diverse backgrounds. With this approach, I drive organizational health, safety improvements, and significant profit margin growth through improved communication, collaboration, and organizational efficiency. After working as an engineer and asset leader, I found a new passion: leading integrated cross-functional teams to deliver supply chain optimization. In my 25+ years at Kimberly Clark, I’ve pursued opportunities that challenged me with complex problems and broader levels of accountability. During this time, I worked in union and non-union facilities in different North American regions across the US and in Mexico. I’ve learned to navigate many different cultures and be successful. I’ve also been very tactical and held more strategic roles. From these diverse experiences, I became more flexible and quickly able to connect people and information to help drive better outcomes for the business. Currently, I’m a Site Director for 3M’s largest facility, where I where I oversee safety, quality, delivery, cost and culture across many different value streams.I’m able to communicate effectively to share a vision at any level of the organization. I care for my team and take it as a personal mission to remove barriers to success, keeping strategies simple. Through effective prioritization, use of data-driven decision making, and team engagement, I drive a competitive advantage to achieve business success. My favorite questions is “why not?” and one of my favorite things to do is to tackle big problems with outside the box thinking.
