Use specialized tools and techniques to extract data from digital devices, such as computers, mobile phones, tablets, hard drives, and USB drives. I recover deleted or hidden data from the digital media. • Perform keyword searches on the extracted data to identify files or documents that are relevant to the investigation. • Inspect metadata, which includes information about the file\'s creation, modification dates, file size, and other relevant details. • In cases where data is encrypted or password-protected, I employ decryption techniques to recover passwords to access the encrypted content. • When data fragments are found, I work to reconstruct files from these fragments, ensuring that relevant information is not lost. I examine the file systems on the storage media to understand the organization of files and folders. • I create a timeline of events based on extracted data and metadata to establish the sequence of actions taken on the digital media. • Once the analysis is complete, I prepare detailed reports, including findings, methodologies used, and any important discoveries.

ABOUT STEPHEN EPTING

Hey, my name is Stephen and I love breaking/rebuilding things, learning/teaching new skills, working in an Avengers-like team setting, and want to be part of the solution that helps your company prevent the next security breach. On top of analyzing data, I love troubleshooting and fixing technical issues and making sure everything works, which I accept as a personal challenge. As Captain America and Iron Man once said, “Whatever it takes.” Professional Summary: A law enforcement officer and an investigator, I have 2 years’ experience and accomplishments in Digital Forensics and Incident Response for the City of Greenville, SC. I have conducted digital forensics and analysis on various devices ranging from homicide investigations to larceny. I have completed detailed reports for these cases which have gone to trial which have been successfully prosecuted. I have effectively collaborated with multiple agencies, multiple officers, solicitors, and courts officials. As a technology enthusiast, I love learning new skills from others while maintaining adaptability. I want to combine my love for investigating and technology into a role within Cybersecurity. Personal details: I am a huge gamer and follower of pop culture, quoting Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones at a whim. I currently run several virtual machines testing Python, new applications, and trying to break it whenever I can so I have a chance to fix it. On top of the useless gaming/pop culture knowledge, I am a single father of the best daughter on the planet, and I own a small duck farm with several ducks I keep as pets. Apparently not learning enough pain, I also own three dogs (German Sheperd, Welsh Corgi, and a Yorkie). I love meeting new folk and listening to their stories…. Everybody can be better people learning from one another. I am always willing to help, so please reach out! “Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” -Galadriel
