ABOUT SHARON HERBERT

With over 17 years of experience in clinical research and development, I am a Director of Global Clinical Operations at Santen, a leading global ophthalmology company. In this role, I direct and manage the clinical operations activities associated with Santen\'s pharmaceutical and medical device studies, supporting the development of innovative and impactful ophthalmology products. I have a PhD in Molecular Genetics from Imperial College London and an MBA from the University of Cape Town, which enable me to combine scientific rigor and business acumen in my work. I have extensive expertise managing clinical medical device and in vitro diagnostics technologies, having worked as a Senior Medical Research Manager at NAMSA (CRO), where I led and supported multiple clinical trials in a wide range of therapeutic areas and technologies (gastroenterology-pancreatic cancer, renal failure, spinal fusion, wound care, obesity, dental implant, neurostimulation, metabolic disorder, atrial fibrillation, duodenoscope reprocessing, deep tissue injury, and heart failure) as well as IVD studies involving hematology (blood collection tubes). As a Clinical Project Manager at Beaufort CRO I managed IVD clinical trials involving molecular diagnostics (oncology, radiation)(multiplex PCR, RT-PCR, NGS), and Point of Care (Flu). As a Clinical Trial Manager at Meridian Bioscience I led and supported IVD studies involving the company’s rapid flow immunoassays for Flu, RSV, Legionella, and Group B Strep, and as Clinical Trial Manager at Medpace (CRO) I managed large global Phase 3 pharmaceutical studies involving diabetes, cardiovascular, coronary artery disease, pain, and multiple sclerosis. I am passionate about contributing to the advancement of medical treatments towards the market to improve the lives of patients. I value collaboration, innovation, and excellence, and I strive to bring diverse perspectives and experiences to my team and the organization.
