Developed and integrated a novel bioinformatics tool (https://github.com/broadinstitute/gatk/issues/7159) into the Genome Analysis Toolkit (GATK) as part of release 4.6.1.0, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of variant discovery. GATK is used by over users worldwide- Developed bioinformatics algorithms capable of flexibly selecting genomic regions at either the gene or transcript level from the Gencode GTF files. It sorts the selected regions by karyotype using the FASTA file and stores genomic regions as coordinates and associated annotations in the Browser Extensible Data (BED) format- Actively contributed to the open-source community by writing and optimizing code, creating comprehensive unit tests, and successfully navigating code reviews to merge my pull request into the main GATK tool- Validated tool performance on human and mouse genomes, demonstrating reliability across species- Presented my contributions to the Data Science Platform Team, showcasing its impact and applicability- Summer in-person internship from June 2024-September 2024 (paid position)
