Russell Sherman is a Partner at Prosek Partners, a leading public relations and corporate communications firm. Russell specializes in strategic media relations, executive visibility, issues and crisis management, and brand development. He is also the host of the podcast,\"Press Profiles,\" where he interviews journalists about their backgrounds, careers, and the business news industry.He began his career at New York 1 News as a reporter and anchor covering sports, news and politics. His coverage included monumental sports events such as the 1994 Rangers Stanley Cup victory (where he snuck a drink out of the Stanley Cup) and the Yankees 1996 World Series Championship; breaking news such as the tragic explosion of TWA Flight 800; and ongoing political debates (and antics) in Albany, NY and Washington. Russell’s tenure at NY1 proved foundational for his understanding of journalism, the news cycle, and the nuances of compelling storytelling - all insights that bolstered his transition from reporting to public relations. Russell joined Bear Stearns in in their Corporate Communications Department. He drove the executive visibility strategy, providing media counsel and brand building tactics. Shortly after, Russell was named Head of Corporate Public Relations and expanded his purview across each of Bear Stearns\' distinct business units. In addition to his work in strategic brand building and corporate communications, he played a key role in the firm’s crisis communications efforts, which culminated in the firm’s eventual sale to JP Morgan in 2008.Following Bear Stearns, Russell founded Sherman Communications LLC, a public relations, marketing, and communications consultancy. In 2010, Prosek Partners (formerly CJP Communications) acquired the firm and Russell joined in a senior leadership role. Over the course of Russell’s tenure at Prosek, the firm has expanded from 40 employees to almost 300 and the firm’s revenue has grown seven-fold. At Prosek, Russell drives communications programs for premiere hedge funds, private equity firms, asset managers, investment and commercial banks, real estate developers, law firms, consultants and leading companies in many other industries. In addition to proactive brand building, Russell guides companies through issues, crisis and other special situations. While not working, you will find Russell spending time with his family, cheering on his kids at hockey games, reminiscing about the Staples Wreckers, Colgate University and Camp Avoda, and overall ― trying to smile, laugh and enjoy life as much as possible.
