ABOUT PIERCE CROWLEY

People often think of policy and compliance as dry or bureaucratic. But at its core, it’s about trust — creating structures people can rely on when they need support, and that allow organisations to thrive. It is the challenge and opportunity these spaces offer that make me passionate about the work I do. A policy and governance professional, I am driven by commitments to transparency, equity, and meaningful engagement. As Complaint & Policy Coordinator at the Ara Institute of Canterbury, my portfolio covers the creation and renewal of organisational policies, complaint management, and compliance functions for the organisation. Through my role I contribute to ensuring we consistently promote fair, legally sound processes that actually work for both staff and student. I bring a strong background in strategic leadership and organisational governance. During my time as President, and then Acting Chief Executive of the University of Canterbury Students’ Association (UCSA), I managed financial and strategic planning processes, established strong relationships with a variety of diverse stakeholders, and led teams made up of diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Outside of work, I serve as Chairperson of the Art for Life Trust, an organisation that provides art classes for people with disabilities with a focus on empowering people through creativity and connection. I hold a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History — a mix that keeps me curious about how decisions get made and how they shape people’s lives.
