ABOUT PETER MURPHY
I am a Senior Designer working in Healthcare at PA Dublin. I have over 12 years experience working in the area of medical device design & development. My background is in Industrial Design and I have a Masters in Medical Device Design. I work across a number of areas including Industrial design, Medical packaging design and HFE. I am a designer who thinks with his hands. I have a passion for the non-conventional side of design; with getting my hands dirty and getting creative with a range of handmade, rudimentary test-rigs and proof of principal prototypes made with paper, card, foam modelling and 3D printers. This hands-on R&D approach lets me innovate quickly. Every model reveals something new and with every iteration brings me one step closer to a user-centered solution. I have a strength in acutely understanding and easily identifying unmet user needs for the client, healthcare professional and patient. I am very proud to have worked on TIME magazine\'s invention of the year 2016. ARC Device\'s Instatemp non-touch thermometer. A revolutionary diagnostic tool deployed in Liberia to help during the Ebola outbreak. I worked to deliver a custom packaging design solution for a TAVI delivery device. This project focused heavily on delivering a successful out of box experience that surgeons and O.R nurses could rely on. Other work includes designing a method of successfully delivering a self-expandable, bio-prosthetic mitral valve into the annulus of a defunct valve, through minimally invasive percutaneous techniques. I am open to students of Design from both second level and University to contact me for advice on FYP and/or Portfolios.
