Project Manager - Ghg Methods and Measurement @Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI)

Wellington, NZ

Managing a 2024/25 project to give farmers the tools they need to estimate on-farm GHG emissions and determine how to reduce them. Key workstreams are developing a standard methodology through extensive sector and scientific engagement; securing the method\'s adoption by calculator providers, processors, banks and international standard setters; and developing the policies and processes so that new mitigations can be recognised. This project is part of the Government\'s Emissions Reduction Plan and featured in the Quarterly Action Plan. The source of the project was the Ardern & Hipkins governments\' plan to introduce a levy on agricultural GHG emissions by 2025. I was originally hired to design the high-level operating model for farmers reporting their emissions and paying a levy. I also wrote a business case and helped shape policy. When pricing was deferred to 2030, the programme was descoped and I was asked to develop and manage a project to realise the benefits of our work.
