ABOUT MARYAM ZAND
I am a Bioinformatician (PhD in computer science) working on developing efficient machine learning and network-based methods for analyzing genomics data to study cancer and neurodegenerative disease. I am also interested in graph theory and algorithms for analyzing complex biological networks to facilitate knowledge discovery from complex tissues like human brain and tumorous tissues.Currently working on integrating single cell datasets [1] in a multimodal analysis framework to perform cell type identification and find genetic markers, genes or pathways significantly associated with the disease [2] aimed at diagnostics and therapeutic strategies for patients. In my career, I have always enjoyed developing machine learning [3] and graph-based methods [4] to analyze [5] wide range of data modalities to study different diseases in both human and animal.[1] Single cell RNA-seq, single cell ATAC-seq, Multiome data, Spatial data, Microarray, SNP[2] Breast Cancer, Opioid Use Disorder, HIV, Alzheimer[3] Clustering, Classification, Regression, Dimension reduction, Feature selection, interpretable AI, Statistical modeling[4] k nearest neighbor, Random walk with restart, Diffusion, Community discovery[5] Cell type identification, DGE analysis, Pathway analysis, Cell dynamics and velocity analysis, Regulatory network, Visualization
