About Mark Radcliff
Ability to Make DecisionsWhen presented with a number of ideas and points of view, a leader needs to be able to make appropriate decisions that keep the project moving forward. Experience is often a key factor in knowing when to make strategic moves. When the leader makes a final decision, he has to do so in a way that doesn\'t cause friction among the team who disagree with his decision.Know your TeamA good leader knows his team well. As he assigns tasks within the group, this knowledge helps him put people in the best position to get jobs done quickly and efficiently. His knowledge of his team doesn\'t stop at the office door. The effective leader takes an interest in the personal lives of his team members. Whenever possible, an efficient leader also meets with his group in activities outside of the work environment so that they can all be more comfortable working together. The time spent in team building outside of work more than pays off as the team works comfortably together.Lead by ExampleEffective leaders lead by example. Teams value leadership that takes an active role in their work. Leaders who only periodically check in with their teams are much less effective than those who participate actively with team processes on a daily basis. A good leader frequently takes on tasks regularly assigned to the team to better understand the operation of the entire unit.Solves ProblemsGood leaders posses the ability to solve problems as they develop for the team. By staying on top of team activities, the effective team leader is better able to spot problems as they begin to develop and works pro-actively to resolve them. This often takes less time and energy than reacting to problems. An efficient team leader demonstrates the importance of setting goals and meeting them. He should work with individuals to ensure each person is completing tasks on time to enable the team to complete the project as scheduled.
