ABOUT JUNE DWYER

The conviction that the power of communication and the sharing of knowledge to increase education is a life-long process, is my mantra. Every day is an opportunity to learn-every opportunity is a learning experience, every challenge helps you grow. Giving back is not optional. Challenging myself and seeking new opportunities is paramount. The path that I have taken is not a straight line and the dots may not seem easy to connect. Each position, beginning in retail allowed me to develop business skills. A career path in retail buying and merchandising parlayed into a sales representative whose clients were retail stores. This enabled me to grow from both sides of the business and provided exciting opportunities to travel and develop new business. With these skills, a door opened into the business division of the Smithsonian Institution. There I purchased product for a variety of museum stores and advanced to a merchandise planner. This was a wonderful opportunity that allowed me to contribute to the \"increase and diffusion of knowledge\"(Smithsonian mission) and learn more business skills. With a change in circumstances came a new opportunity to work closer to home in a new environment. As an operations manager for a real estate settlement firm, I had the opportunity to perform in another customer service oriented business and develop additional business skills. When the company could not recover from the economic downturn in real estate, I sought another opportunity to use all of the skills that I had gained in finance, operations, purchasing and management.
