ABOUT JOE LEPPER

I am – at heart – a builder. Professionally I build things with code, configuration, collaboration, and patience. But feel free to ask about my hobbies as we get to know each other.I\'ve spent the past two years using my fifteen years of experience as a software engineer to build startups – from ideation and research, to prototyping, and operationalizing an architecture in preparation for fundraising. I\'ve been fortunate enough to be shoulder-to-shoulder with some amazing founders bringing new opportunities to life.As a software engineer I am a full-stack generalist who has been paid to write code in a dozen languages over the course of my career. But I have a few deep areas of experience- JavaScript, both on the server with node, or in the browser with React (or both at the same time with Next)- functional programming in many languages, though I\'m very fond of Elixir- designing systems for observability and reliabilityI am a leader and manager of software engineers. I possess the technical knowledge to understand their concerns and capabilities while also possessing the soft skills to coach them to an acceptable solution on a timeline which is tolerable by the organization.I enjoy technical challenges but know that the hardest problems in software engineering are all about people. I seek to create an organization which honors the humanity of our colleagues and cultivates trust through explosive growth and stressful experiences. I build teams, software, and skills that make my colleagues faster, more responsive, and more confident in their ability to ship great code. I build processes that help teams achieve their goals and make a business more successful.Finally, I\'m an advisor, specializing in helping non-technical founders find their way through the challenges posed by starting a leading a technical startup.
