ABOUT JEFF NELSON
I am a global legal and business leader with over a decade of experience advising at the intersection of data privacy, cybersecurity, technology, and enterprise risk. As Vice President, Legal Counsel – Data Privacy & Security at AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company, I partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to enable innovation, protect enterprise value, and build scalable privacy and security governance programs supporting operations across five continents. In this role, I advise on global data privacy, cybersecurity, and risk governance matters underpinning AEG’s live entertainment and sports ecosystem, including international touring, venue operations, ticketing, sponsorship, marketing, and fan engagement. My scope spans AEG’s portfolio of iconic venues, marquee festivals, and professional sports franchises, as well as AXS, AEG’s ticketing platform supporting some of the world’s most high-profile and high-volume live events. I work across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas, navigating divergent regulatory regimes, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other global privacy and cybersecurity frameworks, and advising on cross-border data transfers, digital platforms, biometrics, AI, and information security risk in highly regulated, high-visibility environments. My focus is on delivering practical, commercially focused, and strategic legal guidance that translates complex legal requirements into business-enabling solutions, preserving trust, brand integrity, and long-term enterprise value. Prior to joining AEG, I practiced in BigLaw, where I represented clients in high-stakes, high-profile litigation involving cybersecurity incidents, data privacy class actions, and complex commercial disputes—matters that were frequently the subject of national media coverage and front-page headlines. I later spent nearly four years in-house at PetSmart, advising a large, consumer-facing enterprise on data privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and regulatory risk in a fast-paced, operational environment. This combined litigation and in-house experience continues to inform my risk-based, incident-ready approach to privacy and security governance. I earned my undergraduate degree from UCLA and my J.D. from USC Gould School of Law, and studied international law in a full-immersion program at Universidad Carlos de Madrid.Outside of work, I enjoy international travel with my wife and daughter, exploring new restaurants, gardening, snorkeling, and sporting clays.
