ABOUT EZEKIA MTETWA

I am a trained archaeometallurgist with an extensive background in the later prehistory of Africa. I did my BA Gen at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare reading Archaeology, History and Economic History, allowing me to work first as a high school History teacher and later on as an archivist with National Archives of Zimbabwe. I then proceeded to do a BA 4th year Special Hons Degree in Archaeology in 2006, around the same time when I joined the National Museums of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) at Great Zimbabwe WHS. In 2009, I went to do my MA in Archaeology at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, completing it in 2011. In 2012, I resigned from NMMZ for my PhD studies in Sweden with the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History, Uppsala University (UU), researching the archaeology of iron production in Great Zimbabwe. I defended my thesis in January 2018. Since then, I have taken up two postdoctoral positions at UU, first at the Evolutionary Biology Centre, further whetting my appetite for fostering collaborative research and integrating science methods with broader socio-cultural research. The second one saw me back at the Dept. of Archaeology and Ancient History as the lead researcher for Zimbabwe in the \"Mapping Africa’s Endangered Archaeological Sites and Monuments (MAEASaM)\" Project. This position honed my skills in digital archaeology, a deeper understanding of Africa’s archaeological context, and project coordination including the ability to integrate insights from various heritage stakeholders and government agencies. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring my unique blend of skills and experience to any private or public organisation, academic or otherwise, dealing with archives, cultural heritage and archaeology.
