ABOUT EVANGELOS FILIPPAS
I am a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer with a strong academic and industry background in Computational Hydrodynamics, High-Performance Computing (HPC), Scientific Modeling and Data Engineering.As an Assistant Professor in Computational Hydrodynamics, I led research on energy-saving propulsion systems, such as Flettner rotors and active lifting devices and developed GPGPU-accelerated simulation frameworks for hydrodynamic performance prediction. Earlier, as a Hydrodynamics & CFD Specialist in the Sustainability Department of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), I applied these methods to optimize vessel design, energy efficiency, and environmental compliance.I also held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), contributing to the SeaTech H2020 consortium project. There, under the supervision of Prof. K. Belibassakis, I extended the work of my Diploma Thesis and PhD on dynamic wing concepts l, merging viscous-inviscid interaction models with data-driven and physics-informed methods for propulsion performance enhancement.In parallel, I served as an Instigator and Academic Consultant in the founding phase of Promilist - a platform inspired by my vision to connect academic research and industry. While the initial idea was partially implemented by former students and collaborators, the project\'s interdisciplinary ambition reflects my long-standing interest in innovation at the intersection of science and industry.I bring deep expertise in numerical modeling, fluid-structure interaction, and simulation of complex systems, supported by strong programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C++, FORTRAN, Bash), and experience with cloud-native and containerized workflows (Docker, GCP, AWS).Now based in Berlin, I am studying Data Engineering with a focus on production-grade pipeline architectures (Python, Apache NiFi, Kafka, Airflow, Spark) and on designing both batch and real-time data workflows using SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch). My current interest lies in applying data engineering to build scalable and resilient systems that connect engineering expertise with data-driven innovation in industrial contexts.
