Lead innovative healthy food access efforts across Maine\'s largest health system comprised of 12 community hospitals. Primary initiatives I manage include: increasing access to healthier, locally grown and sustainable foods in hospital food service departments, screening patients for food insecurity, and connecting families with on-site, community-based and federal food access resources. Facilitate numerous system-wide workgroups with diverse stakeholder involvement. Develop and maintain strong community partnerships to support program goals. Oversaw MaineHealth’s successful achievement of the national Partnership for a Healthier America’s “Hospital Healthier Food Initiative”.

ABOUT EMILY K.

I\'m passionate about increasing access to healthy food for all, supporting the local food system, improving food security, and decreasing rates of diet-related diseases. I\'m a collaborator, facilitator, and coalition builder who utilizes evidence-based knowledge to create population-level change. An experienced program leader, grant writer, and strategic planner, I love working with groups of people to solve challenging problems in creative ways. Some of my relevant experience includes: • Leading innovative healthy food access efforts across Maine\'s largest health system with a focus on increasing nutrition security, food is medicine sustainability, and local food procurement • Overseeing a federal grant to promote nutrition and physical activity through policy, systems, and environmental change in rural Maine • Managing dissemination of the Let’s Go! 5-2-1-0 childhood obesity prevention program across the MaineHealth hospital service area In my free time, my family and I enjoy visiting the many beaches in our town (in all four seasons!), testing out new recipes for local Gulf of Maine seafood, and sharing garden veggies with neighbors when we (inevitably) grow too many cucumbers.
