About Caroline Guempel

Before I came to Auburn, I always knew I had an interest in numbers. Since then, after thoroughly discussing my career plan with a mentor of mine, and the help of the Harbert College of Business here at Auburn, I realized that majoring in accounting was a suitable plan for me. Accounting is a very reliable degree and is very versatile, which is the most attractive aspect to me because it allows to make connections in various industry fields. In high school, and when I am back home from college, I spend my time working at a company, learning and gaining well-rounded knowledge of the operations of a business. Business has always been a passion of mine and I am truly engaged in the work that I do and the useful information, as well as life lessons, that I learn every day when I work there. I started out shadowing the finance and accounting team as they go through sales receipts and invoices and learned how to navigate QuickBooks and Excel. Now have moved up to a position of my own where I have the responsibility of doing them myself as well as payroll. This background knowledge that I have gained solidified my decision that I want to work hard in receiving a degree in accounting and be CPA certified and strive to be in a working environment where I can show my interest and add value to a team. Another passion of mine is real estate. I have worked for a real estate team in summers past, and have fallen in love with the industry. My biggest take away from this experience was that I was able to work with clients face to face and learned how to interact with all different types of people. Real estate is another broad field as it has both commercial and residential fields. I interned with a group that specialized in residential work, but I am very curious about broadening my horizons and learning more about the commercial side. Although my two main passions seem to be different, my major in accounting will help with the overlap of real estate if I ever wish to pursue it in the future.
