ABOUT AUORRA UBAN

Walking into a candy store is my yellow. As a child I often found it hard to adjust to change. Walking into my magic shop surrounded by all sugary treats and kaleidoscopic rainbows was my idea of solace on a rainy day. Somewhere between the saltwater taffy to the Bertie Botts jelly beans, I have learned to taste the colors of life (and enjoy its magic as well)! Throughout my academic and professional endeavors, I aim to bring the magic of the candy shop to wherever I may be. As a sophomore studying Cognitive Science with a Specialization in Computing at UCLA, I have been able to leverage my experience and spread my magic through my active involvement in societies and campus work. Although I may not have access to Lumos and Reparo on a regular day, I do have access to the large range of data analysis and computing skills that put me in the category of any good wizard in the ministry on any good day.(Fun Fact- Siri is a secret witch! Say \'Hey Siri, Lumos\', and watch the magic happen) I have a shared love for both people and the work that people do. From the gloomy blues to the sunny yellows I work across the skies to make sure we not only aim, but reach for the stars. An exemplification of this can be found in my research and collaborative work ranging throughout the industries linking them up like constellations in the skies. As an aspiring data analyst in the making, you will often find me modeling simulations in MATLAB and R Studio. With the threads of humanistic behaviors and the magic of code, I aspire to weave blankets spreading over the expanses of history and our future, setting the context for a more humanistic analysis to the data we see every day. I call this spell my minor - Digital Humanities. There, however, exists a world outside my magic too. A place where, without my powers, I turn to the muggle way of living. It is here that you can find me cultivating Spotify playlists with the concentration of a rocket scientist, or with my eyes glued to historical fiction books or a documentary on the world war. Humans beings are complex. This is something we already now. But human beings are also magical and like pieces of candy. Sweet, sour, full of color, and with a burst of magic within them. Some magicians are good at coding, some at writing, and some in the arts. This one here is good with humans - the best magic of them all. And with this goodness comes a heap of willingness to learn, a dash of experience and a big over-the-top extra sprinkle of promise to excel at whatever comes.
