ABOUT ANGELICA B. ORTIZ DE GORTARI
I examine the interaction between humans and technology, with the aim of maximizing the benefits of digital innovation while addressing its psychological and societal implications. I am a psychologist, researcher, author, and speaker with over 15 years of experience studying how interactive media shapes perception, cognition, and behavior. I was among the first researchers in Latin America to investigate what was then termed “Internet addiction” (1998), contributing early empirical insights to a field that is now central to discussions of digital well-being.I developed the concept of Game Transfer Phenomena (GTP), a multimodal framework that explains how sensory and cognitive elements from digital environments can shape thoughts, perceptions, and actions beyond the screen. In addition, I have led a longitudinal research project on esports in Nordic schools (esportsNS) at the University of Bergen, examining the effects of esports education on student well-being and academic outcomes. My work supports organizations, educators, and policymakers in moving beyond simplified narratives about technology by offering a more nuanced understanding of how immersive systems shape human experience, performance, and learning. Since I have contributed to public discourse through appearances on television, radio, and podcasts, including BBC World Service (BBC Click), BBC East Midlands News, and Televisa Monterrey. My research has been featured internationally in outlets such as Discovery News and New Scientist, Boston Globe included in books on topics ranging from augmented reality to sensory evolution, and has also inspired portrayals in popular media, including an episode of CSI: Cyber and a science fiction novels.Visit my website to know morehttps://esportsns.com/https://gametransferphenomena.com/https://cyberpsyke.com/
