ABOUT AIDAN MCCARTAN
As the Head of Politics, Press and Public Affairs at the British Consulate in Miami, I have responsibility for helping advance the UK\'s bilateral relationship with the USA in the territories of Florida, Puerto Rico and the USVI. I\'m a bilingual leader with a decade of experience in international affairs, political and regulatory issues. I have a rich history of developing forward-thinking solutions to complex problems. Throughout my career, I\'ve demonstrated a passion for delivering desired outcomes and building lasting stakeholder relationships through a breadth of knowledge spanning multiple industries. Furthermore, I\'ve crafted public policy strategies covering connectivity, fintech, trade, taxation, human rights (with a focus on privacy and freedom of expression), market structure, and cybersecurity. A small sample of my career accomplishments includes: • Managed public affairs campaigns, human rights due diligence, and regulatory approval processes for transactions valued at $5B, including the largest FDI in Guatemala’s history. • Successfully lobbied for the inclusion of funding mechanisms in the draft Americas Act bill in Congress, for companies seeking to transition to “clean networks”. • Authored various thought pieces including an article on Mexico\'s judicial reform and an in-depth paper on policy-making principles of designing methods for internet intermediaries (IIC Future Leaders Competition). • Represented Millicom in a public speaking capacity, including a high-profile anti-piracy event in Colombia, the IIC’s digital policy forum in DC, and \'RightsCon\' human rights conference in Canada. • Established strategic communications with government authorities and key stakeholders in the Americas, including the Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank, UNICEF, and US State Department. • Directed development operations for a 360 public policy campaign based on the academic research of an internationally renowned expert in telecommunications. Resulted in 60% of savings for a key business asset. I also have expertise in strategic and corporate intelligence operations, with experience as both as a source/contributor for various agencies and as the U.S. Office Head for Intelligence Research (parent company of LatinNews). I led engagement and business development efforts with law firms, banks, private equity groups and others, to provide unique insights for special situations such as market entry, due diligence, arbitrations, and disputes. I would love to connect if you\'re looking to network with fellow dedicated leaders!
