ABOUT ZBIGNIEW GRABOWSKI

My work is guided by the philosophy that humans, as part of nature, can co-create the world we want to live in. Our main challenge is not one based in politics, finance, or technology - it is in our collective social psyche and imagination. We, as a species, have not yet become conscious agents of our own evolution. We remain largely reactive to perceived threats to our survival, physically and/or of the ego based identities we have been socially conditioned to create in order to fit in within hierarchical and extractive economic and political systems. The opportunity of our lifetimes is to foster a critical mass of humanity to accept our role as creative agents in the world and overcome the limits of our existing narrative and narrow imaginations. Exciting developments bio-based technologies point the way towards advanced economies that honor the principles of right relationships with the earth. The time is now to transition to a non-toxic and climate positive economic and material system - meeting our needs for food, fuel, transportation, clothing, shelter, and all the needs of everyday life through circular economic and biomimetic systems. I am working towards this vision as - Executive Director of the Alliance for the Mystic River Watershed - tribally and youth co-leda regenerative watershed organization with over 500 members across our two Tribal Nations and four member towns in the Pequot lands of the Mystic River Watershed in Quinnetuckwa (Connecticut)- part of the team leading the Northeast Woodlands Bioregioning Alliance where we are working towards creating a regional process and infrastructure for bioregional regeneration with tribal co-leadership, developing a bioregional knowledge base, regeneration strategy, and financing facility. By serving on the steering committee of the newly formed Biobased Materials Collective, where we seek to insure that all built environment work is regenerative over its supply chain and life cycle. All of this work builds on my experience as a researcher, project manager, and hands on laborer across diverse initiatives in biocultural conservation and restoration, green urbanism, and regenerative design. I am always excited to connect with passionate individuals and organizations also seeking systems change and a just transition.
