ABOUT ZACHARY DOBHAN

Hi! My name is Zachary Dobhan and I am from Pensacola, Florida. I am a rising senior at Florida State University majoring in Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) and have plans to graduate in the Spring of 2026. I started my time at FSU with my major undecided and little to no understanding of the insurance industry. After spending the majority of my freshman year becoming accustomed to college and searching for what I wanted to do, I declared my major as RMI at the end of the spring semester. Even after declaring my major, I was not sure if RMI was the right choice for me. After summer ended and I returned to FSU for the fall, I took my first RMI course with Dr. Charles Nyce instructing it. During this course, Dr. Nyce sparked a interest within me and showed me all of the different possibilities within the world of insurance. He introduced the class to Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS), which is an international professional fraternity focused on students interested in RMI and actuarial sciences. I joined GIS that fall and since then I have become passionate about increasing my knowledge and understanding of risk management and insurance. I am currently serving on the executive board of GIS at FSU as the Vice President of Professional Events. I am very proud of this accomplishment and am excited to better GIS with the help of the other outstanding members of the exec board. I earned my University Associate Certified Insurance Counselor (UACIC) designation in the fall of 2024 and plan on completing my full CIC designation in the coming years. After graduation, I plan on completing more continued education courses and earning more designations. I was raised in a way by my parents that taught me to work hard, commit to my goals, and be genuine. I still proudly live by these values and am using them to learn and grow every day.
