ABOUT JOSEPH KIM
I am a recent PhD graduate from Johns Hopkins University and currently a Postdoctoral Fellow. I have over 10 years of research experience in life science fields, including molecular biology, oncology, genomics, and translational research, in both academic and industry settings. My diverse background has enabled me to develop a robust set of experimental, analytical, and leadership skills. I’m now looking to transition into scientific research and development or medical affairs roles where I can leverage my expertise to bridge the gap between research and real-world applications. My thesis focused on the role of HMGA1 in Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs) and its impact on immune evasion in leukemia. I explored the novel mechanisms by which HMGA1 binds and alters chromatin structure, recruits repressive histone marks, and introduces unique chromatin looping that affects gene expression and antigen presentation. I also investigated T cell responses based on the effects of HMGA1, providing insights into how chromatin modulation could influence immune responses and potential therapeutic strategies. Additionally, my research highlighted the therapeutic potential of targeting HMGA1 with HDAC inhibitors, demonstrating its relevance to patient outcomes and its promise as a therapeutic target.Beyond my scientific research, I have a solid background in management and operations, including leading cross-functional teams and managing projects from inception to completion. I have taken on various leadership roles, such as mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and organizing professional development and outreach events to promote scientific engagement and collaboration.
