About Weidong Zhou
Professor Weidong Zhou is Director of UTA Photonics Center. He is also a Janet and Mike Greene Professor and Distinguished University Professor at UTA. He obtained his BS and ME degrees from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He obtained his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. After graduation, he worked as a lead engineer at CIENA Corporation on active photonic devices for optical fiber communication systems. Dr. Zhou has authored and co-authored over 400 journal publications and conference presentations, including over 100+ invited conference talks. Dr. Zhou and his group have made significant contributions in the areas of photonic crystal flat optics and micro transfer printing based hybrid membrane photonics, especially photonic crystal membrane lasers, high power photonic crystal surface emitting lasers (PCSELs) and PCSEL arrays.
