ABOUT VICKY WILSON
Senior Associate - Education LawI am a Senior Associate in the Education Team at Browne Jacobson and have provided legal advice to schools since 2012. As an Independent Schools specialist I am known for my work in the sector, which includes advice on new independent school registrations, mergers, closures and reorganisations as well as regulatory requirements with the DfE, Ofsted and ISI. My recent rankings in legal directories include- “Rising Star”, Legal 500 for 2021; and- “Associate to watch”, Chambers & Partners for 2024.Having previously worked in-house for an Educational Trust, I have seen things from both sides of the table and use this insight to connect with clients and provide pragmatic advice. My broad range of experience in commercial litigation and charity law enables me to support schools with contentious and non-contentious work as well as with day-to-day operational advice.Since joining the team at Browne Jacobson in January 2023, I have become known for my advice to independent schools and academies on pastoral issues and for my particular expertise in safeguarding. I regularly advise on complex safeguarding issues, including those involving serious case reviews, external investigations and multi-agency working. In addition, I provide a wide range of pastoral advice to schools and regularly advise on complex parental complaints, family law issues that relate to the sector and data protection as well as admissions, exclusions and special educational needs. I have previously spoken at regional and national conferences and regularly present webinars for education clients and contacts, including as a keynote speaker on handling complex safeguarding issues at EdCon 2024. I have also enjoyed developing and delivering the firm’s Complaints CPD training programme designed to equip school leaders with the tools and skills required to efficiently handle the volume and complexity of parental complaints that schools are currently receiving.I am a member of the Education Law Association (ELAS) and a professional member of the Safeguarding and Child Protection Association (SACPA).If you have a schools related query, please do get in touch for an initial discussion.
