ABOUT TOM HULSEBOSCH

I’m a 35-year veteran of the utility and communication industries focused on helping clients develop new products, customer growth, and markets. While I have had many interesting jobs during my career, my current role at West Monroe is the most challenging and also the most satisfying because of the continuous opportunities to learn and make an impact on our clients, our firm, our people, and society. When I joined West Monroe in 2008, I was motivated by the chance to do work that could help decrease our country’s dependence on foreign oil and modernize the utility industry. These trends shaped my thinking as I began to bring together the right blend of industry, IT, and telecommunications expertise to deliver new types of grid solutions. It has been extremely rewarding to see the practice mature from addressing foundational elements of a smart grid to exploring the next stages of industry transformation, including distributed energy resources, electrification and decarbonization of transportation, and maximizing the value of enterprise data. From 2016 through 2019 I also led the evolution of our Dallas office, including building a team with the full breadth of West Monroe’s capabilities and establishing our second technology hub there. I have recently taken on new responsibility becoming or Chicago Office Leader. While I’ve had the opportunity to build teams from the ground up before, doing so with West Monroe has been a career pinnacle because of the unique culture that attracts great people and motivates them to stay.Even more rewarding is the opportunity to work in an environment so committed to developing the next generation of leaders – a passion of mine. As a member of the advisory board of Illinois Business Consulting (a student organization at the University of Illinois), I help mobilize students in consulting teams to tackle real-world corporate projects and gain exposure to careers in consulting. Now, I am working to bring this concept to additional schools, particularly those with diverse student populations.
