ABOUT TILLY GEE

Coding is the dream I never knew I had. I started out thinking that I wanted to live my life in a Zoo, or a Safari or in the Jungle but it turned out, after trying this, it wasn’t for me. My strengths include being a great problem solver and picking up new languages quickly. If there’s something I don’t know how to do and can’t find the answer to that’s okay, I will just experiment until I get it right. I’m good at taking the initiative but am also a great team player, happily taking advice and asking for help when I need it. I have also had extensive training in customer services and support and hope to utilise these skills in my next role alongside coding!So far on my course I have learned HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Bootstrap, jQuery,Git/GitHub, MySQL and MongoDB with more on the way. When I complete the course soon I want to continue learning other languages, principles and frameworks and am now looking to start my career in a position that will help introduce me to these. Continuing my development within a support role, I love the sound of becoming a technical support engineer, and working towards my goal of eventually becoming a Software Developer.I graduated University with a BSc in Zoology and went straight in to what I thought would be my life career at Longleat Safari Park and then on to Edinburgh Zoo. My time spent at both these places was amazing and I will never stop pursuing conservation in my free time. However, the zoo life turned out not to be for me and I needed to take a step back for a moment, try things out and see where life took me, so I left the Zoo world to see where I could go next. The answer just fell in to place after that. Problem solving and creating things myself is always something I have loved doing but lost sight of whilst I pursued other paths, so when my sister mentioned to me that she had done some coding tutorials and thought I might like it, my interest was instantly piqued. I went to my computer, opened up an introduction to HTML and that was it.The first thing I made was a step by step guide for an app about cats. It sounds crazy but the sense of excitement, achievement and wonder I felt at that simple application that I had built was incredible. It was a feeling I’d forgotten but now I never want to lose again. From that point onward I knew what I wanted to do, I wanted to code. I made the decision to start my journey with Code Institute and I’ve never looked back. I’m learning and creating new things every day and I’m loving it!
