I began working in the skin care industry in 2009 for a small business that imported a bar cleanser. I became interested in ingredients and how they affected the health of our skin. I couldn\'t find anything that worked well for me. I wanted something that worked as well as the top dermatologist brands, but was safe like the natural brands, and the main problem with everything I had tried seemed to be fragrance and essential oils; my skin just couldn\'t take it. I decided to do a line that fit my personal needs, knowing that there were a lot of people out there in the same boat. The goal with my company, Drunk Elephant, is to deliver clean, yet efficacious skin care. The levels of hazardous chemicals and irritants found in everyday products is problematic. Our company message is that \"all organic\" or \"all natural\" doesn\'t necessarily mean all good. We choose ingredients that are safe, regardless of their \"synthetic\" or \"natural\" status. We also left out all of the natural fragrance ingredients, including essential oils, which we believe are at the root of many skin issues like sensitivities, allergies, inflammation and collagen breakdown. We pay close attention to pH levels, toxicity levels and the percentages of active ingredients so that they are all working together to make our formulations clinically effective, totally safe and non-irritating at the same time.
