ABOUT THOMAS KÖCHER
Metabolomics has become a critical technology for biological and biomedical research. My laboratory is fascinated by the power of state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography to separate, detect, and quantify such diverse molecules as lipids, carboxylic acids, nucleosides, or alkaloids. We are captivated by the complexity of the analytical chemistry behind the vision of delivering a comprehensive, dynamic, and quantitative picture of the metabolome. I have more than 25 years of experience in bioanalytical chemistry and mass spectrometry, co-authoring more than 70 publications in this field citations; h-index >30). In 2015, we have earned a 1.5 M€ grant to build a metabolomics research and service facility at the campus Vienna BioCenter. Since 2016, our team of well-trained analytical chemists have provided LC-MS/MS-based small molecules analysis to various commercial and academic studies. Using HPLC-coupled triple quadrupole mass spectrometry, we have established LC-MS/MS methods for the absolute and relative quantification of around metabolites and other small molecules such as drugs. In addition, we have built a non-targeted LC-HiRes-MS/MS platform for global metabolomics
