As a senior hydrogeologist/Groundwater Flow Modeler/Geochemist- I play a leading role in hydrogeological and geochemical investigations of active and inactive mines (such as sustainable abstraction of water resources and environmental impact assessments, etc.). Integrate and interpret multidisciplinary datasets, including hydrogeological, geochemical, lithological, and geophysical data.Construct 2D and 3D Conceptual Site Models (CSMs), incorporating hydrostratigraphic frameworks and plume/vadose zone kriging to support robust numerical model calibration, history matching, and predictive simulations.Assess performance of existing dewatering systems and forecast groundwater sustainability using stochastic numerical modeling techniques.Develop and apply numerical and analytical models of groundwater flow and solute transport to delineate source–pathway–receptor linkages.Design and recommend site-specific mitigation strategies, including hydraulic containment systems, dewatering wellfields, and controls for tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and heap leach operations.

ABOUT TEDROS TESFAY

I have over 16 years of consulting experience as a geochemist/hydrogeologist, effectively solving complex environmental issues for clients. Leveraging my broad educational and professional background, I\'ve contributed to diverse projects globally, analyzing geochemical processes, subsurface lithologies, and hydrogeological conditions. Additionally, I am firmly committed to social and community services. The geochemical works involve baseline studies, environmental impact assessments, and characterizations of mine waste, including ARD/ML. Evaluations extend to assessing seepage/pit lake water quality and its impact on nearby water resources. The application of PHREEQC in geochemical modeling facilitates the characterization of solutes, allowing for the assessment of model output across different scenarios. My hydrogeology and environmental geology roles involve installing monitoring wells, developing sampling and testing programs, aquifer testing, and creating 2D/3D geologic models. I import a 3D geologic model that preserves lithologic integrity to build groundwater-flow and solute-transport models, utilizing tools such as MODFLOW, Pest, and Beopest calibrations in GUI and DOS windows. The final stage involves evaluating the model outcomes by reintegrating them into the 3D geologic modeling software to improve the effectiveness of existing and assess the feasibility of proposed remedial systems.A Hydro-Geochemical Trend Analysis (HGTA) method has been developed to establish a robust conceptual site model, elucidating source-pathway-receptor relationships, characterizing the mixing of different water sources, and offering insights into governing geochemical processes. This method decodes proportional relationships of major ions through various bivariate and multivariate compositional and statistical analyses, revealing distinctive chemical signatures that act as natural tracers. The results enable the identification of hydraulically interconnected, seasonally/weakly connected, or disconnected sampling points. These findings support the development of risk-based mitigation measures and remediation alternatives.
