WORK HISTORY

ABOUT SUZANNE TAMAKI

I have over 20 years experience working with numerous Maori and Pacific community groups in the creative arts industry. Recognized nationally and internationally as an artist and social provocateur who uses fashion and photography to create visual narratives that respond to cultural-politics in Aotearoa New Zealand. Her works often investigate the nature of indigenous feminisms in the South Pacific, challenging the colonial gaze and Western ideas of nationhood within a bi-cultural nation. I worked for seven years in a programme leader role at Te Papa Tongarewa developing and delivering the museum’s arts and culture programme. Lead the Matariki festival programme to gain more prominence in New Zealand. Currently working at Wellington City Council as Senior Māori Creative Events Producer. Resonsible for producing the Wellington Pasifika Festival, and Te Rā o Waitangi, and supporting community lead events to navigate Wellington City Council processes and licencing. I am the Wellington Māori Wardens Area Liaison Officer and am dedicated to recruiting more wardens in Wellington and supporting a safer City. If you are interested in becoming a warden, or would like to connect with me please message via linkedin.
