ABOUT STANTON STAFFORD

Stanton Stafford is a Partner and Mechanical Engineer at Buro Happold. He currently serves as Market Leader for the Southern United States, Federal Sector Co-Leader and Director of the Atlanta Office, a studio he helped launch in July 2022. Buro Happold focuses on occupant-centric and low-carbon design through the firm\'s MEP/FP, Structural, Advisory, Sustainability, Planning, Facades, Low-voltage, Specialty Analytics, Acoustics, Lighting and Vertical Transportation service offerings. The Southern Region (GA, NC, FL, SC, TN, AL, MS, LA, AR, KY, TX) currently includes offices in Atlanta, Durham and Coral Gables.An Atlanta native, Stanton received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia. He has spent his 25+ year career between Washington, D.C. and Atlanta working in the higher education, government, commercial, cultural, aviation, healthcare and science & technology sectors.In 2021, Stanton became a LEED Fellow having served as Mechanical Engineer of Record for over 2 million square feet of LEED Platinum Certified projects in Metro Atlanta. Stanton has also helped design Living Building Challenge, LEED, WELL and Zero Net Energy benchmarks for the Southeast including- ASHRAE Headquarters: First Zero Net Energy Commercial Office Retrofit in Georgia- NCR Headquarters: First Dual LEED Platinum Certified project in the Southeastern U.S; First LEED CS Platinum Certified project in Georgia- Interface Headquarters: First LEED v4 Platinum, WELL Gold Certified project in the Southeastern U.S- Gulf State Park Interpretive Center: First Certified Living Building in the Southeastern U.S- Beltline Urban Barn: First Off-grid Energy, Off-grid Water Commercial project in Georgia.Nationally, Stanton is a Past Chair of ASHRAE\'s Technical Committee 2.8 (TC 2.8)- Building Environmental Impacts and Sustainability and served as a Charter Member of ASHRAE Standard 228 which developed a Standard Method for Evaluating Zero Energy and Zero Carbon Building Performance. Locally, Stanton is a Founding Board Member, Past Chair and current Board Member of the Lifecycle Building Center of Greater Atlanta, a not-for-profit delivering triple bottom-line value through building material salvage and reuse.
