Sonja Lunde is the Executive Director of the Fleming Museum of Art at the University of Vermont. Guided by the museum’s mission to boldly center art in learning and conversation, she works every day to help create a space that is welcoming, inclusive, and alive with ideas. At the Fleming, Sonja and her team are reimagining what a university museum can be: one that is deeply connected to the cultural and intellectual life of both campus and community.Sonja provides leadership across all areas of the museum’s work, from exhibitions and collections to engagement, fundraising, and operations. With more than twenty-five years of experience in higher education and nonprofit settings, she brings a deep belief in the power of museums to foster connection and curiosity. Before joining UVM, Sonja spent many years at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, where she helped guide strategic planning and collaborative, inclusive museum practice. She holds degrees in Art History and Organizational Communication.An art-and-museum nerd through and through, Sonja is equally devoted to orange cats, dogs, Jeopardy, traveling, skiing, and sailing.
