About Sonia Grego
I am co-founder and CEO of Coprata, a health technology startup on a mission to empower individuals with measurable insights on their gut health. I am a scientist and engineer motivated by the belief that biochemical data from the body- collected around the toilet - provide unique opportunities to inform choices for a healthier life. Our technology makes advanced stool analysis accessible for everyday use. Blending scientific rigor with user-centered design, Coprata has developed at rapid at home test for a meaningful indicator of gut health and a groundbreaking health-monitoring toilet. Backed by a decades of research in sanitation technologies, Coprata grew out of my work at Duke University, where I direct the Smart Toilet Lab. Prior to Coprata, I’ve built multidisciplinary research programs focused on translating lab-based discoveries into real-world health applications—from digital diagnostics to sanitation technologies. My background spans sensors, bioassays, algorithms, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications and multiple U.S. patents.
