ABOUT SIMON PADILLA

I support the operation of the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF), a partnership between FAO, WHO, WOAH, the World Bank and WTO, which provides support to developing countries in building their capacity to implement international sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards, as a means to improve their human, animal, and plant health status and their ability to gain or maintain access to markets.Since joining the STDF in 2007, I have managed a US$ 15 million portfolio of more than 50 projects grants across Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. I also lead on priority STDF knowledge topics, sharing good practice from electronic SPS certification to cross-cutting issues such as gender and the environment across STDF\'s global network. I have worked on international trade at the WTO for over fifteen years.I hold a Master in Economics from the Université Catholique de Louvain and a Master in International Economics and Development from the University of Namur in Belgium. My main areas of expertise are: international trade, project design, management and evaluation, implementation of the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) and the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), as well as other WTO trade topics.
