ABOUT SIMON DOUTHWAITE

Worth a read I hope. It\'s certainly different. Multiple fields, multiple countries. My career has varied from the pinnacle of the futures trading world at global leading banks, to sweating carrying scuba tanks, selling high end underwater robots, to working with first responders and a decade volunteering in the thick of kids battling cancer. Director, Manager, Banker, Fund Raiser, Scuba professional, MC and Speaker, Dad and hubby. For 2 decades I\'ve been an independent trader in commodities and currencies, previously working at major financial institutions trading derivatives, foreign exchange and stocks in Hong Kong and in London. Underwater Robotics with SEAMOR as part of a 4 person Management team, and personally set up large new dealer networks in the UK, Europe and Australia/NZ which had a big impact on the company and its growth trajectory. Loved working with the RCMP in Canada at the NURTC HQ as they set a new depth record for a successful recovery mission in the Arctic and we remain friends with a common interest in professional technical scuba diving. I have been fortunate enough to have lived, learned and worked in nine different countries, spanning Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. My youngest daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in 2014 when she was two and we were living in Kuala Lumpur. 3 very very hard years. Changed everything. In 2016 I started to give back. We\'d had a lot of help. I gave talks to raise money for pediatric cancer. In 2019 I was privileged and honoured to be invited to ride in the Tour de Rock, on Vancouver Island to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Nineteen of us each rode over 4,500km in training, riding and fundraising three to four days a week for over 8 months - and 1,087km for the event itself in October. I was elected co-captain of the team by my fellow riders and trainers who were all police, firefighters or paramedics. Between us we raised over 1.16 million dollars! I rode again during the Covid altered Tours of both 2020 and 2021. Hard work with good people for a good cause - unbeatable. I love first responders and they have changed my life. In 2021 I was proud to give a TEDx talk. Nerve wracking isn\'t even in it. But fulfilling as hell. & t=6s In 2022 I led a huge effort to get the Tour back on the road after Covid. Smashed ambitious targets and doubled the amount raised. Wonderful team. Amazing police, firefighter and paramedic and community support. Helped a bunch of kids. Loved that. Nothing worth doing is easy. Practice gratitude.
