Mine is a deep and long career in consumer insights, with great breadth of scope in methodologies and industries. Market research has undergone and continues to undergo so many changes in how we answer the one deep question of our universe: what motivates us? Though the means of answering this question are many and evolving, including the power of observational research made possible by technological advances, the question itself is always the same. Of all the methodologies I\'ve used over my career, the one that has always worked best for me is real time qualitative research. There is still a place for focus groups, mini groups and depth interviews as well as brainstorming and ideation. Human nature more than ever is attracted not only to sharing our \"likes\" but also in explaining ourselves to others. My modus operandi? All researchers gather the data (the WHAT), a good researcher interprets it for the insights (the SO WHAT) and a quality researcher gives their client the NOW WHAT, the business actions that derive from the insights. This is what I have always tried to give my clients - actionable business intelligence.
