ABOUT ROSA E. ARIAS-PERRY
I currently work in city government specializing in municipal ethics, open government, and subpoena compliance. I am honored to have been appointed by the former Mayor of my city as the Municipal Integrity Officer (MIO). As the city\'s MIO, I provide city employees and officials with informal, confidential advisory opinions regarding their ethical obligations. Additionally, I provide development and training on ethics and compliance to ensure adherence to the City and State\'s code of ethics. As a municipal employee, I have also gained expertise in subpoena compliance and the Access to Public Records Act (APRA).I am a licensed attorney. My legal expertise in the field of immigration encompasses family-based immigration, which involves helping individuals and families navigate the process of immigrating to the U.S. through family relationships, such as sponsorship by a family member who is already a citizen or permanent resident. As a first-generation American, from parents born in the Caribbean, it\'s an honor to provide legal guidance and support to individuals navigating this complex process, knowing firsthand the hopes, dreams, and aspirations that drive each family\'s journey.An early career highlight for me was the opportunity to provide pro-bono legal representation at the Artesia Residential Center in New Mexico. This facility gained national attention due to controversial expedited deportations that denied due-process rights to women and children seeking asylum in the United States. It was a heart-wrenching experience, witnessing firsthand the struggles of women and children, all of whom were victims of horrendous crimes in Central America, seeking asylum in the United States. Despite the overwhelming challenges and injustices, being able to offer them a glimmer of hope through legal representation remains a deeply emotional and impactful memory for me.
