Robert D. Kelly, PhD is the 21st President of the University of Portland. The University of Portland, serving a thriving community of more than students, who come from around the nation and the world, as well as over faculty and staff. The University is located up on a bluff in a residential neighborhood overlooking the Willamette River and the city of Portland. The school’s location also is the inspiration for its nickname, “The Bluff.”Dr. Kelly has spent his entire professional career in higher education – as an administrator, a professor, and now as the leader of the University of Portland. As President, Dr. Kelly is the University’s chief executive officer, with responsibility for leading the institution and its mission of teaching and learning, faith and formation, and service and leadership. Prior to this position, he served as University Vice President at Loyola University Maryland, where he oversaw diverse areas across the University such as mission and identity, intercollegiate athletics, external affairs, and the division for student development. Dr. Kelly served in executive leadership roles such as the Chief of Staff at Union College, and Vice President for Student Development at both Loyola University Chicago and Seattle University.In addition to a bachelor’s degree in political science, Dr. Kelly earned a master\'s degree from the University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. He is a past member of the Board of Trustees at Loyola University Maryland and he attended professional education programs at Harvard University.

Dr. Kelly has spent his entire professional career in higher education – as an administrator, a professor, and now as the leader of the University of Portland. As President, Dr. Kelly is the University’s chief executive officer, with responsibility for leading the institution and its mission of teaching and learning, faith and formation, and service and leadership. Prior to this position, he served as University Vice President at Loyola University Maryland, where he oversaw diverse areas across the University such as mission and identity, intercollegiate athletics, external affairs, and the division for student development. Dr. Kelly served in executive leadership roles such as the Chief of Staff at Union College, and Vice President for Student Development at both Loyola University Chicago and Seattle University. Kelly has published and presented papers on various aspects of innovation in higher education, mission, student dev, external relations and college life. Prior to his position, he served in various executive roles such as Chief of Staff at Union College, Vice President for Student Development at both Loyola University Chicago and Seattle University. In addition to his administrative positions, Kelly has served as a professor teaching a number of courses both at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including \"Leadership in Higher Education\" and \"Law in Higher Education\" among others.Kelly received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, his master\'s degree from The University of Vermont and a bachelor\'s degree in Political Science from Loyola University Maryland, where he served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. Kelly\'s research focuses on areas of administrative ethical decision-making in higher education, and transforming the college environment for institutional success.
