About Rebecca Irby
Rebecca Irby was part of the 2017 ICAN team which won the Nobel Peace Prize and holds ECOSOC Special Consulting Status at the United Nations with her NGO PEAC Institute, where she is the Co-Founder and Board President. She is on the Financing for Development Committee and sits on the Working Group on Climate Finance. Rebecca is also the Director of Programs & Services at New Detroit, A Racial Justice Organization, which she joined on December 1, 2021, after spending the last 17 years in the education sector. Rebecca is an educator and activist who opens spaces of peace and cross-cultural communication worldwide. Her work encompasses the creation of experiential learning in SEL, social skills, diversity, cultural awareness, and communication training for marginalized youth, organizations, institutions, and governmental groups. Rebecca is one of the founding members of the Developing Safe & Civil Schools team, which helped create a new profession within education, the Social Emotional Learning Coordinator. She has spoken at and worked with prominent institutions and governments such as The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, & Industry; The City of Hiroshima; The Hiroshima Peace Museum; Nagoya University; Gifu University; New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Harvard Law School; the Yale Policy Conference; NJ Department of Education; Rutgers University; the National Liberty Museum; and The PyeongChang Global Peace Forum, to name a few.
