About Raman Thakur

I have spent years navigating ships, from tankers to container vessels and I’m currently serving on one of the biggest ships on Earth. ULCS 400m I’m a graduate in BSc Nautical Science from Indian Maritime University and my role as a 2nd Officer demands precision, calm under pressure and decisions that carry real world consequences. Every ship I’ve sailed has shaped me building discipline, leadership and the ability to stay sharp when it counts. But now, I’m gradually shifting course, toward business, leadership and personal evolution. I plan to pursue an MBA in the near future (2026), not just for a degree, but to better understand the kind of strategy and decision making that shapes the world beyond the bridge. Until then, I’m learning, Observing, Growing and upgrading myself one step at a time. I create short form content about life at sea, in the mountains and everything in between things I observe and learn along the way. I’m new to YouTube, but there’s a unique concept I’m working on something raw, relatable and deeply personal. 1. 2nd Officer

   MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company

   Feb 2025 — Present

   Currently serving onboard a 400-meter Ultra Large Container Ship (ULCS), one of the largest ships in operation. Responsible for global passage planning using ECDIS (including transits across Gibraltar, Singapore Strait, and West Africa) Active bridge watchkeeping in high-traffic zones and complex approaches to ports like Antwerp, Singapore, Ningbo and Abidjan Handling navigational publications, chart corrections, and updates under SOLAS and ISM Overseeing LSA/FFA inspections and coordinating safety drills (fire, enclosed space, ISPS) Collaborating with Master and Chief Officer on port documentation, arrival/departure planning and PSC inspections This assignment has been a significant leap in handling large-scale ship operations, multinational crew coordination and port turnaround strategy.
