ABOUT RACHEL SMOLKIN

I build and lead world-class, results-oriented and collaborative teams that embrace public service, the future of journalism and the fast-changing needs of audiences.I am President and CEO of Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), a multi-platform news and public affairs organization that connects people across Oregon and the Pacific Northwest through the power of a shared story. I want us to find new ways to broaden and deepen our engagement with diverse audiences, to elevate and connect our storytelling across platforms and to lead the conversation on news and public affairs across the Pacific Northwest.As the former senior vice president of global news for CNN Digital Worldwide, I led the breaking news, politics, U.S, business, EMEA and APAC coverage and teams across CNN’s digital platforms. We worked as a united team to report the biggest stories for our audiences, including the war in Ukraine, the Covid-19 pandemic, elections, global markets and economies, climate change and human rights. I came to CNN in 2014 and built the network’s coverage of Washington, politics and elections into the #1 Politics brand on the Internet, a role that coincided with an extraordinary political period.I care deeply about engaging our audiences and giving them the information they need to make their own choices in a time of turbulence and misinformation, focusing on service and innovation. I love partnering across teams and creating systems and culture that help talented people excel. I\'m proud to have empowered outstanding and diverse leaders. I have an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, where I attended the global executive program as a Batten Media Fellow while working at CNN. I completed the Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program at Columbia University and hold a bachelor’s degree from Brown University.
