ABOUT PHILIP ROCHE

My core interests are the technical aspects of water treatment and water supply engineering. I maintain an understanding of the broad range of areas necessary for the delivery of projects. I use this understanding to be the \"architect\"of water treatment projects, coordinating the inputs from the specialists required to deliver the projects, making the parts work as a whole.I joined Beca in the early stages of the detailed design development of Watercare\'s Waikato Water Treatment plant, as part of a joint venture design/build consortium to deliver this plant, which has now been developed to its design capacity of 150 ML/d. In recent years I have been responsible for the design delivery of a number of new water treatment plants in both New Zealand and Australia, around 80% of which have been membrane based processes. A highlight from my time at Opus was running a 12 month long pilot program in preparation for the new water treatment plant for Nelson in which a very broad range of processes were trialed (including DAF, Ozone, two stage filtration), direct filtration and membrane filtration). My time with Watercare Services as a utility operator gave me a sound background in the operational realities of water treatment. I enjoy taking on the challenges that projects may present and working through these to come up with innovative solutions that meet the project requirements.Outside of work I enjoy sailing, tramping, outdoor activities, making stuff and spending time with my family.
