ABOUT PARMINDER S. BASRAN FCCPM
I’m a medical physicist, educator, and researcher who likes a challenge. After decades of working and leading clinical teams in large healthcare systems, I now focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence, radiotherapy, and veterinary medicine, where innovation often lags but the potential for impact is enormous. At Cornell, I lead the VAIDER Lab: Veterinary AI in Diagnostics and Radiotherapy. We build practical (and sometimes radical) tools for imaging, dosimetry, and diagnostic AI, especially in low-resource settings and underexplored areas. I’m excited by: Low-cost technologies like 3D printing; Workflow acceleration via smart software and imaging hardware; Collaborations that stretch far beyond my field; Making science and learning engaging and even fun.Because science isn’t just for specialists. Or humans. Or those with deep funding. Science means everyone… and everything.Graduate Opportunities – Self-Funded MSc/PhD StudentsAre you a self-funded graduate student, or planning to apply for your own fellowship and interested in working at the frontiers of radiotherapy, AI, and veterinary medicine? At the VAIDER Lab, we welcome highly motivated students with independent funding who are eager to pursue cross-disciplinary, translational research. Current projects span: AI for medical and veterinary imaging; Radiation dosimetry and low-cost QA platforms; Spatially fractionated and precision radiotherapy; Global health applications in both human and animal care; Gamification and immersive tools for medical educationWe value curiosity, independence, and a willingness to challenge assumptions. Students with backgrounds in medical physics, engineering, veterinary medicine, imaging science, or computer science are especially encouraged to reach out.Our lab culture emphasizes collaboration, open science, and impact-driven research that reaches beyond traditional academic boundaries.
