Application Infrastructure Engineer – National Highways (CHARM UK Systems)Supporting motorway technology and infrastructure across the UK, Ireland, and NetherlandsAs an Application Infrastructure Engineer, I support national-scale infrastructure systems that rely on both IT and OT. My work ensures high availability, security, and performance across real-time motorway environments.Troubleshoot and maintain critical motorway systems (signals, CCTV, MIDAS, SVD) within SCADA-linked environments using DYNAC, CheckMK, and server monitoring platforms to ensure availability and resilience.Monitor and analyse system performance across Windows Server and Linux environments, using Splunk dashboards, Event Viewer, and server watch tools to detect anomalies, failed processes, and infrastructure issues.Perform log and traffic analysis using Wireshark, ESB logs, and SQL/DBeaver queries to diagnose communication errors, SSL/TCP handshake failures, and queue processing issues between distributed systems.Support vulnerability management by validating findings from Nessus scans, reviewing CVSS scoring, and assisting with remediation workflows to maintain patch compliance.Automate diagnostics and reporting with PowerShell and Bash scripts, streamlining data collection, log extraction, and queue resets to improve recovery during incidents.Assist with incident response and threat analysis, reviewing alerts in Splunk, investigating abnormal system behaviour, and triaging security-related tickets through ServiceNow to escalate to L3 teams when required.Manage access control and account provisioning through Active Directory, ensuring integrity of user permissions and supporting secure connectivity across operational networks.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve fault-finding processes, refine Work Instructions, and strengthen system resilience through consistent monitoring, testing, and documentation.
