ABOUT NICO DE BRUYN

Conservation executive and research ecologist. Currently leading the global in situ conservation initiatives of the Indianapolis Zoological Society. To date, led and managed wildlife research and expeditionary field teams with international profiles in the fields of large mammal ecology, marine mammal science, wildlife management and zoological 3D photogrammetry for over two decades. I am adventurous, an experienced explorer, capable of working in various environments with diverse teams and am a comfortable, accomplished project innovator and strategic leader. I have changed my academic hat (previously a Professor of Zoology) for a more practical and applied conservation leadership position at the renowned Global Center for Species Survival at the Indianapolis Zoo in partnership with the IUCN Species Survival Commission. I am an accomplished author: have over a decade of experience in team leadership, fundraising, financial/project/people management, and capacity building, working with diverse stakeholders from government, industry, private, and parastatal sectors, as well as higher education institutions.I am also the co-founder and director of two innovative entities that apply technology and unique methods to address environmental and social challenges. PhotoVolumetriX (PVX) is a globally unique patent-pending photogrammetric system that creates accurate 3D models of cattle and wildlife, enabling longitudinal data collection and improved management of growth metrics. Intelligent Water Systems (IWSX) is a patent-pending smart water-saving shower mixer (Triton Xerophyte®) that eliminates water wastage while waiting for the shower water to reach the desired temperature. Both companies reflect my interest for creating business strategies for a better world.…. AND I absolutely love the game of Cricket
