The Creative Bureaucracy Festival puts excellent, creative solutions to community issues and the people behind them in the limelight. Everything from small adjustments to big visions for the future! The festival represents a shift from a “no because” culture to a “yes if” culture that embraces experimentation and new ideas. In doing so, the festival aims to refresh the reputation of public administrations and appeal to imaginative new talent. In 2025, the festival returns with the Digital Kick-Off Day in March and the live festival on 5 June, welcoming over 2,100 creative bureaucrats in Berlin.

ABOUT NATHAN H.
I grew up in a small, resident, farm town called Kutztown in the middle of the Pennsylvania countryside. I refused to learn Spanish as a child for the sole reason that I didn’t like being forced to go to classes that took place outside of school. Seven-year-old me had more important things to do… When it came time to choose between Spanish or German in middle school, I chose German even though everyone in my family spoke Spanish. The rebel in me was content. “You’ll show them” the little devil would whisper to me while standing proud on my shoulder. However, I soon came face to face with the classic German words Streichholzschächtelchen and Eichhörnchen, and the devil suddenly, and mysteriously, disappeared. Thirteen-year-old me could have sworn my family was celebrating a little too much Schadenfreude.Over the course of the last ten years, this unassuming childhood decision has changed my life for the better. I graduated with a bachelor\'s in German Language and Culture, worked as a program assistant with the Department of State to improve diplomat language training at the Foreign Service Institute, and moved to Berlin to pursue my master’s in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy. A love for bridging differences through the sharing of culture is now at the center of my personal and professional aspirations. I look forward to applying what I learn today to make myself a better global citizen desperately trying to relearn the Spanish my childhood self so defiantly tried to prevent.
